Project Description
Arias provided Geotechnical Engineering services for the plans, specifications and estimates (PS&E) to expand US 281 North roadway from Stone Oak Parkway to the Comal County Line. The project includes expanding the highway to a six (6) lane expressway consisting of 2 General Purpose Lanes, 1 HOV lane in each direction and bridges with overhead signage. After this expansion, this stretch of 281 will grow from the current four lanes to 10 lanes overall.
Frontage roads pavements will be upgraded and new frontage roads will be added; entrance and exit ramps will be added including several braided ramps; new turnaround bridges will be constructed at Marshall Road, Wilderness Oak, Bulverde Road, and Borgfeld Road; retaining walls both cut and fill walls are planned along the alignment; overhead signs are planned along the alignment; and storm water detention areas will be constructed.
The highway work is part of a multi-year project meant to alleviate traffic congestion and improve safety in an increasingly busy transit corridor.
