The impact of Construction Materials Testing reaches far beyond whether a certain material passes inspection or not. The integrity of a roadway, building, or other construction structures can easily be compromised if materials testing services are not properly completed, which can result in costly outcomes on project construction. At Arias, we know how our services impact a project’s design, construction, and performance. Our Project Managers see the big picture and strive to ensure our services contribute positively to both the project’s short-term and long-term outcomes. Our certified and knowledgeable staff provide a myriad of construction Materials Testing services during and after construction. These services assist contractors during construction, provide confirmation to owners, designers, and building authorities that projects will perform as intended, and facilitate post-construction investigation of elements not performing correctly. Our services listed may be provided on an on-call or full-time basis, with laboratory testing performed in our local offices. If project needs dictate, Arias can provide an on-site laboratory to support our field personnel and the project team.
Arias provides Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Special Inspections in many phases of construction including (but not limited to):

Concrete testing & observation
Arias field personnel provide pre-placement observations including formwork, reinforcement, and embeds. Then during concrete placement we perform testing (temperature, slump, air content, unit weight, and cast specimens for compressive strength testing), and observe the placement procedures for proper consolidation, finishing, and curing procedures.
soil testing & observation
Soil properties influence many design parameters, especially for foundations and roadways. In the laboratory, Arias tests soils from jobsites to determine whether they comply with project specifications and to provide needed data for use by our field staff. Our field staff then uses this data during construction while testing for things like compaction, moisture content, and proper soils utilization. Arias field staff also provides observations for deep foundations such as drilled piers and driven piles.
asphalt testing & Observation
Asphalt may seem simple on the surface, but as your favorite pothole can attest: this process can be delicate, complicated, and prone to failure. In the field, Arias staff helps manage this process through monitoring of placement temperatures, testing of compaction, and observation of rolling patterns and joint construction. At the asphalt plant, we also provide monitoring and testing during production to verify mixes and help maintain consistent product delivery to the project.
Our AWS Certified Welding Inspectors check the nuts and bolts of steel construction (and welds). As well as, visual observation during steel erection, verification of welding and bolting, and non-destructive testing of welds.
masonry testing & observation
While masons are at work, so are we. Our Field Technicians observe the placement of brick and block checking the construction for compliance with plans and code for reinforcement, placement, and proper tolerances. We also sample mortar and grout for property verification back at our lab.
wood framing observation
Our staff visits wood construction job sites at key milestones to check that the framing has the necessary elements installed correctly including blocking, bracing, tie-downs, hangers, sheathing, and nail patterns.
ARIAS’ Laboratories maintain Accreditation and Certification from many agencies, including:
• American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO) • Materials Reference Laboratory (AMRL) • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) • Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) Arias’ staff includes licensed professional engineers, engineers-in-training, field technicians, laboratory technicians, and administrative support personnel. Our team members are certified by industry-related agencies such as:
• SafeLand USA • International Code Council (ICC) • National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) • American Concrete Institute (ACI) • Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) • American Welding Society (AWS) • Post Tension Institute (PTI) • Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Arias is dedicated to customer service and in today’s rapidly evolving environments that means leveraging technology. We have successfully implemented advanced technology to meet and exceed our client’s needs in many facets of our business, including:
Project Management Our IT department has developed our very own project management software (CORE) which empowers our team members to better manage project budgets and quickly access information about your project.
Field & Laboratory Data Collection Our field staff uses MetaField® to wirelessly collect data in the field and laboratory. This solution allows for real-time access to test results, and enables us to speed up the reporting process. It also give us the ability to create customized reports based on service location as opposed to just by service date. MetaField® is constantly evolving to better suit our (and in turn your) needs. Deliverables As a solution to your deliverables needs, we offer CorePort™ which provides options for Self Service Access to your project documents, customization notifications when new documents are added, and long-term retention and archiving of project documents even after projects are completed.
