Project Description
Arias provided Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing Services for the $95 million construction of the new Center for Oral Healthcare 198,000 square foot four-story building, 525-car parking garage and a 170-car adjacent surface parking lot in the San Antonio, Texas Medical Center.
The new facility enhances the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSC-SA) recognition as a Top-Tier Dental School institution which incorporates future technology for exemplary education, training and patient care. The expanded facility will improve the Dental School’s ability to provide multi-specialty care and training in one location with an enhanced patient experience. The design of the new facility enhances the “UT Medicine” brand and integrates with adjacent buildings to create a unified campus. The facility includes comprehensive dentistry, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery suites, periodontics, simulation labs, radiology, clinical research space and faculty practice areas.
Geotechnical Engineering services included: soil borings including rock coring; logging and sampling; laboratory testing; engineering analysis; recommendations for site preparation, below grade walls, drilled pier foundations, retaining walls, excavation trenching and shoring, pavement design, and construction considerations
Construction Materials Testing services included: field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, masonry, and asphalt; earthwork and site preparation observation and testing; drilled pier installation observation; reinforcing steel observation; floor flatness testing; structural steel observation; and sprayed-on fireproofing observation and testing.
